Competitive Threats, Information Asymmetry, and Insider Trading

This paper provides evidence that intensified product market competition increases information asymmetry between corporate insiders and investors. I use volume and gains from insider trading as proxies for information asymmetry. I show that when a firm faces competitive threats insiders purchase and sell more stocks and their trading better predicts future stock returns and long-term profitabil...

Dynamic transbilayer lipid asymmetry.

Cells have thousands of different lipids. In the plasma membrane, and in membranes of the late secretory and endocytotic pathways, these lipids are not evenly distributed over the two leaflets of the lipid bilayer. The basis for this transmembrane lipid asymmetry lies in the fact that glycerolipids are primarily synthesized on the cytosolic and sphingolipids on the noncytosolic surface of cellu...

Converging term order sequences and the dynamic Buchberger algorithm

We introduce the concepts of convergence and limit for sequences of admissible term orders. We prove that every sequence of term orders has a converging subsequence. We consider the dynamic Buchberger algorithm proposed by Gritzmann and Sturmfels, in which before each computation of the normal forms of S-polynomials it is allowed to choose the term order arbitrarily. We give a counterexample to...
